Strengthening community-based organisations
One of the first objectives of Tusoco is to strengthen its associated members, by working with them on themes concerning organisation in general and the improvement of tourist services. We organise training courses on a series of themes that the communities consider as priorities. We also organise micro-projects competitions to motivate our member organisations to improve their training level, their promotion and their infrastructures. Last but not least, we facilitate exchanges of experience between our members. Generally an organisation goes and visits another one that is already consolidated to know and learn concretely how it has developed. Some of our members are amongst the best Bolivian tourism companies. For example, Chalalán was granted the price of the world best community-based company in 2007.
Promotion
It is hard for the communities to manage the promotion of their tourist products because of their alienation. This is why Tusoco takes care of the promotion of each organisation: the Network participates in national and international fairs, it manages the website www.tusoco.com, it publishes promotional material, and takes any other relevant action to promote the products of the communities. It is much more effective to promote all the tours of the communities together than each community by itself.
Marketing
In the headquarters of Cochabamba and in the agency in La Paz the travellers can get information and buy there their tours. Since 2009, Tusoco has been able to sell its tours directly through its commercial subsidiary company Tusoco Viajes SRL (Tusoco Travels). The member organisations can request the technical support provided by our technical team any time to better their tourism offer.
Lobbying
The Tusoco network as the representative of the sector, seeks to raise awareness of public authorities such as local authorities, prefectures, and national Government, about the reality of the community-based tourism in the country. We work in coordination with the municipalities where our associated members are to achieve their incorporation into the development process of a responsible tourism on its territory.
Tourism and environment
We help our member organisations so that they can use tourism as a strategy to protect environment. We help them to develop microprojects on this theme with the support from other organisations that work specifically on this theme.
